Thursday last week we hosted the first ever Dark and Spooky Reading Night! Students in grades PreK-8 came back to school for a night of spooky stories. Students and parents were invited to come dressed in their Halloween garb for a fun filled night. Younger students were able to do some trick-or-treating throughout the school hallways while older students were haunted by quite a talented group of high schoolers. Each student enjoyed three spooky stories read by our wonderful staff and community volunteers. To end the night, students and their families enjoyed a treat made by the SMS cafeteria and each studnet went home with a new book provided by PTO. The night was a success and everyone went home with a smile. A huge thanks goes out to all the volunteers that helped make the night amazing!
Last week students in my Challenge class were able to participate in their first ever breakout sessions. Breakout EDU creates learning games for students of all ages. They have to use their problem solving, critical thinking, and trouble shooting skills to find their "way out" or to unlock the box. Students in grades 3-5 were able to break out of the classroom after being locked in by the evil Viola Swamp. They were also able to retrieve the crayons that the mouse hid the day he went to school. The students loved the challenge and have been continuously asking when the next breakout will occur!
