Title I Information
Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) provides financial assistance to states and school districts to meet the needs of educationally at-risk students. The goal of Title I is to provide extra instructional services and activated which support students identified as failing or most at risk of failing the states challenging standards in mathematics, reading, and writing.
Scales Mound School receives Title I funds each year. The number of low-income students attending our school determines how much funding we receive. At Scales Mound, the funds are used toward the Title I reading teacher's salary. Funds can also be used to provide childcare so parents/guardians can attend mandatory Title I meetings. A major goal of Title I is to have both the school and parents/guardians working together to help students become successful.
Title I students are those who are recognized by our tiered RtI program. AIMSweb and MAP are the two testing programs currently used to identify students. Students whose reading score is below the 25th percentile on those assessments meet the criteria for RtI. Students without an IEP that fall into Tier 2 and/or Tier 3 may receive Title I services. Specific students will receive extra instructional services in reading for thirty minutes a day. The intervention will depend on what the specific need is.
A minimum of 3 parent meetings will be held each year for those who have children in the program.
